Was excited to finally try this restaurant. It's located in Brunswick right next to the post office. Few parking spots for restaurant and street parking. Reservations are highly recommended. Can make them online. Very large wine menu- assorted price ranges too. Fun tea menu. Artistic cocktails. Foods are meant to be shared but I would say portions were pretty large. They recommend 2-3 plates per person. Few groups of 4 dining so makes it fun to try a bunch of different items. Sadly forgot to get pictures of my food. Menu changes frequently and dumplings are daily. They even ran out of the daily dumpling after I ordered and served us another option (though the daily one looked abd sounded better). The sausage rice balls were my fave!

The best vietnamese food I've found in the greater Portland area. Charming and welcoming small dining space in two rooms. Make reservations several days in advance. The bar serves the full menu and is a great option for walk in. In two tries I've sampled many of the small plates on the menu. The scallops were a recent standout. The flavors are generally a little stronger and not as delicately blended as I might like, but overall still pretty darn delicious. Beer and sake selections are well curated. The bill will set you back, but you'll have a great meal!

Met friends here on Friday and wanted to make sure to review this unique asian fusion restaurant on Pleasant street in Brunswick ME . This is an interesting place ! 5 stars for the satisfying menu offerings with complex and balanced tastes. 5 stars for the waitress who described items so well. We ordered two plates each and the four of us all shared . The beef dumplings were wonderful and flavorful, not spicy . And we were similarly were satisfied with the flavors of the cilantro noodles with duck confit , the crispy rice balls and the tasty green beans dish . We also ordered a side of rice which we all took home along with our tiny leftover boxes.

So...stopped by Tao Yuan last weekend to find the main restaurant closed, with a note about a new marketplace in the building next door. We headed right over and were delighted to find the marketplace! There is a big counter with baked goods, dumplings and buns out for sale. There are a few tables if you want to eat in, but the entire set up makes take out easy and fast. One of my issues with Tao Yuan in the past, was when I had reserved a table for one of their special dinners, the meal was super expensive for the amount of food served. This marketplace has a whole different vibe, small snacks are relatively reasonable priced and ready to go! Highly recommend!

I thought a quick update with pics was needed since their new temporary rebranding as ZaoZe Café outdoors is most excellent. The varied asian street food dinners are not only unique and delicious but quite affordable for this normally expensive restaurant. $35 gets you three courses with enough food. Every week it's a different asian focus. Service is great as always and as far as parking lots go this one is surrounded by wildflower gardens and had a powerful cool breeze both weekends we were there in the high 80s! Very comfy.

For me the three most memorable things about Tao Yuan: 1. Dumplings These are some of the best dumplings I've eaten in Maine. Get multiple orders - you won't be disappointed! Love that they have both a meat and veggie option, love the house hot sauces (especially the greenish one) that accompany them (and the advice to shake it directly into our soy sauce), love the pan-fried crispy outside and bursting-with-flavor inside of them. These are NOT to be missed. Add an order of the Asian Slaw, and your mouth will be very happy... your belly just won't be very full. Because, it's important to note that while the food is delicious, the small plates here really are *small plates*. For example, we got two orders of all four items off the Cold section of the menu and it was barely enough for my party of eight people to sample each thing. The house dumplings are by far the best value (each order comes with five). 2. Cocktails Creative, perfectly crafted, and priced right. Our party also appreciated that the mocktails were just as delicious! 3. Service For the most part, we had great service! I made sure to make a reservation for our large group (you should do this regardless of your party size); they had a menu available that noted which dietary restrictions they could accommodate on which items; and, they were beyond patient at our inability to make decisions. We did need to constantly ask for water, and towards the end of the night it felt like they were hoping we'd wrap it up and move out. But, our server was very forthright throughout the evening about food portion size, the kitchen's capabilities, and at making suggestions. Would I come back? Absolutely: specifically for dumplings and cocktails as the appetizer to the rest of my evening.

I appreciate a lot that Tao Yuan has to offer. For one, I appreciate that they have something unique to add to the Brunswick food scene. Being an Asian-fusion restaurant, it gives them a lot of creative freedom with the dishes that they make, and it shows by what they offer on their menu. The menu consists of cold plates, dim sum, and hot plate items, and they offer an annotated menu for those who have food restrictions. Tao Yuan also provides a cool, modern ambiance. The inside tends to be dark with some Asian-inspired minimalistic decor on the walls. I think this would be a perfect place to bring someone on a date, as it really is an intimate, romantic establishment. The food is also a highlight at Tao Yuan. I was able to try most things on their menu, and there wasn't anything that I did not like. Some highlights for me were the pork buns (OMG, I could bask in those fluffy buns on the daily), the steamed Shao Mai (so perfect), and the Asian Slaw. The only thing that I dock Tao Yuan for is that on their menu they suggest 3 to 4 plates PER PERSON. I totally get the idea of small plates and it can be fun, however, Tao Yuan can easily get very pricey if the expectation is 3 to 4 plates per person. I also found that a lot of their cocktail options were pricey as well. In general, I think Tao Yuan is a great establishment that has a lot to offer, and their food is delicious! I just wish their prices would reflect what they suggest for each person.
